In “Os Desafinados”, film of Walter Lima Jr. that opens on this Friday, Joaquim, Rodrigo Santoro’s character, tries the artistic career in the United States. Any similarity with the actor’s history, that is doing his own international carrer, is just coincidence. “Joaquim went to the United States dreaming to do the career. I was to promote ‘Abril Despedaçado’ and ‘Bicho de Sete Cabeças’, maybe that has wakened up myself that will”, tell the actor in the press conference for the movie, today, in Rio de Janeiro.

“I think it was an unconscious dream that I had”, told Santoro, before doing other parallel with the character. “We are two adventurers”, he said, referring to Joaquim’s courage and of his own to try the life in North America.

Protagonist of hot scenes with Cláudia Abreu’s character, the actor says that faces the sensuality that exists in the script naturally. “We are friends”, he minimizes. The fans curiosity with this things don’t bother him. “I don’t feel better nor sexier than nobody, but of course is good for the ego”, he told.

I just came to the Leonera official website and saw that there’s two pictures of Rodrigo as Ramiro. Just added it to the gallery.

I also was reading some reviews (specially Cannes reviews) about the movie, and saw very good reviews about the little (but important) Rodrigo performance.

Synopsis
Julia wakes up in her apartment, surrounded by the bloody bodies of Ramiro and Nahuel. Ramiro is still alive; Both have been, obscure and simultaneously, her lovers and one made Julia pregnant.
Julia is sent to a prison housing mothers and pregnant inmates. There she spends her first days absorbed and aloof. She hates to be a mother in this situation.
The child is born, a baby boy. Bringing up a child in prison is difficult and annoying. This just happened against her will. But more and more, Julia feels this boy is her only valued one left.

Julia visits Ramiro in the Men’s prison. The events of the night of the crime remain muddled for both, just as their feelings towards each other.

I got a really poor quality copy of the 1996 Sai de Baixo episode which Rodrigo did a great appearance. I tried to make some caps (actually I already did it), but it’s not the best caps you ever saw.

Also, my friend Mariana sent me scans from the latest “Revista de Domingo” (Sunday’s Magazine) from Jornal do Brazil, a newspaper from Rio de Janeiro. There’s 6 pages (8, plus cover and editorial) with pictures and information about Rodrigo’s new project, about football (soccer) player Heleno de Freitas.

Heleno de Freitas was a very good football player, but controversial, rude, temperamental, bohemian, that died at 39 years old of aneurysm (maybe because the life he lived, with drugs, alcohol, night and womens), after having gone in a mental institute, as crazy. As you can see, it will be a very strong role!

Leonera (Argentina-South Korea-Brazil)
By JAY WEISSBERG to Variety.com

Situated somewhere between neo-realist study and standard women in prison pic, “Lion’s Den” too frequently wanders into common territories to make the material its own, though pic’s overall style and Martina Gusman’s bold lead have a great deal to recommend them. Confirming the superb compositional eye he revealed in “Born and Bred,” helmer Pablo Trapero creates a suitably enclosed world focused on an accused pregnant murderess through jail and childbirth, witnessing the development of mother and child as the rusty wheels of Argentinean justice creak slowly along. Modest arthouse play could ride the wave of Argentine cinema’s media attention.

“Lion’s Den” represents an adventurous non-Asian choice for Cineclick Asia’s co-production coin, joined with Trapero’s own company Matanza Cine and Walter Salles’ Videofilmes. Neither the picaresque comedy of Trapero’s popular breakthrough “Rolling Family” nor the melancholy meditation of “Born and Bred,” current offering is more a strongly sympathetic depiction of women serving time and raising kids behind bars. Obviously besotted with tykes himself, Trapero makes clear the problems stemming from cellblocks doubling as nurseries, but wisely skirts offering up elusive fix-alls.

Snapped at Cannes by Cinematical, it’s the only known billboard for Jim Carrey/Ewan McGregor con-on-con gay prison romance I Love You Phillip Morris. At first glance, the tasteful campaign seems to be going for something like an Anderson Cooper Christmas card. A mere ten seconds later, however, the slats on the mechanized sign rotate, revealing a far edgier tableau of a Versace-clad and spray-tanned Carrey offering horsey rides to a bethonged and delighted Rodrigo Santoro.
